Looking to take your PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) Indonesia

The Gili Islands, Indonesia is now becoming an extremely popular destination for both divers and holidaymakers alike and therefore we regularly receive enquiries about our PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC). Generally we find that prospective candidates have already chosen Indonesia for the destination and have e mailed various dive shops both here and in Bali and are now debating exactly where to begin their exciting new career.

We always suggest that the decision of which facility to choose is a very personal one and people can only really decide for themselves on the location and dive operation that they chose, however we do always suggest one way to make this decision is that prospective candidates do their research and make sure that everything feels right for them.

We will briefly discuss the questions we here the most and hopefully it can help you in your search for the ideal facility for your dive training needs.

Our PADI IDC – Instructor Development Course, based here in the Gili Island, Indonesia
The Gili IDC PADI Instructor Training is based here in the Gili Islands, Indonesia which is a fantastic place to live, train and work. The course has been priced at a very reasonable €950 (Euros) including the Emergency First Response Instructor (EFRI) Course. We fully understand that although getting qualified as a PADI Recreational Scuba Instructor is an investment, it can also be seen as a bit of a financial constraint and it would be a shame to see good divers and potentially great PADI Instructors choose not to fulfill this exciting career path. In no way does our price affect the overall quality and consistency of the course, in fact logistically our facility is only able to heighten the experience and maximize the course content. Our open water training site is only a short journey by boat which leaves from directly outside the dive center eliminating the need for additional transportation, reducing cost and time; whilst maximizing the time spent in the classroom and on core elements of the course.

Our IDC take place in one of the largest PADI dive centers in Indonesia and therefor candidates have the perfect  opportunity to gain immediate, hands on experience for some of the most experience instructors around and to start self-marketing and networking immediately.

Our PADI Course Director (CD)
Our Course Director Holly has been diving for more than 15 year now in both a professional and recreational capacity and has dive in a multitude of locations and environments. Having first hand real experience of the dive industry and its expectations she is able to help you transform into the best possible instructor and set you off to a good start for your future career.

Holly is a first class representative and advocate for the PADI education system, particularly when it comes to professional dive qualifications. Our IDC program on Gili Trawangan, Indonesia is designed in a way that we can not only provide the required course content but train instructors to a level beyond that expected within  the dive industry. Knowing first-hand the “oh so common” constraints of time and money we have devised a schedule that will allow people to develop a rewarding career.

What about PADI Course Directors?
PADI Course Directors are Master Instructors which have been selected to attend the Course Director Training Corse (CDTC), so generally all PADI Course Directors have been trained to exactly the same level and are teaching the same syllabus. There are certain awards and classifications a course director can obtain, but these are generally based around the numbers of instructor which they have trained. It’s always a good idea to discuss the experience of a course director whilst they were working as a PADI Instructor, as this is what you will be doing in the future and these are the people you can trust to advise you about locations and potential career opportunities.

Choosing the right course for you.
It’s always a good idea to check out what’s on offer. All PADI Course Directors have been trained to a specific standard of teaching and all PADI IDC Centers are classified as a five star or Career Development Centre (CDC) which in turn gives you the piece of mind that the facilities and those teaching the course have met a certain industry standard set by PADI that ensures the quality of the PADI system. This means that PADI professional courses will be delivered to the highest standards at a facility that exceeds that needed to conduct these courses.

The cost of taking you course will ultimately play an important role in the decision process. it’s not only going to be the cost of the course, but the cost of accommodation and other costs which may arise whilst taking the course. It’s important to consider that the cost of the does not necessarily reflect the quality of the course. Courses that are offered at a lower price are more likely to do with good logistical planning and therefore reduced overhead expenditure. For example here on the Gili Islands our boat is situated directly outside the dive shop and there are no cars on the island which completely eliminates the additional transport costs usually involved in getting to the boat. Courses offered at higher prices may be due to transportation costs , higher rental prices in that particular area or a range of other overhead factors. So it is important to remember that the cost of the course may vary due to a number of factors such as logistics, scheduling and geographical location. Here we have been fortunate to be able to maximize the learning experience whilst considerably reducing the cost.

Another factor is time. You may wish to take the course in the shortest possible time and therefor get working as soon as possible, or you may wish to take much longer get the most amount of time possible. This will be something that you will have to think about. We have considered this factor and adopted it into our schedule. The course is 10 days but we recommend you arrive 4 days before to take the preparation part of the course. So If you wish to do your own self-study and can only spare ten days for the course it can be arranged, as also if you think you need more than 4 days prep this can also be discussed.

Location is another main factor and this is something that only you can decide. Some may wish to be close to home some may wish to try somewhere new. It is also important to consider where you wish to work once you have finished your course, here in Gili Trawangan it is easy to find jobs during high season, but dive centers do prefer that you are already here and have trained here.
